About Learning to Crawl
Book 1 of the Learning From Remi series
In the immortal words of the Talking Heads, "Well, how did I get here?". How did I end up at 57 years old, never having children of my own, living in a house with a newborn baby? I think it was simply meant to be.
My fiancée, Beth, and I decided to make it official after dating for 5 years and get married. We also decided that apartment living was not what we wanted. We looked for a house to buy for a while but didn't see anything we really liked. Beth's son, Matt, is a builder and, when the opportunity came up to buy a piece of property in a nice neighborhood, we took it. Matt built us a great house and we moved in May of 2020.
Anyone reading this in the future may remember 2020 as the year Covid 19 started. Not a great year in the history books. I am blessed in lots of ways and 2020, although inconvenient, crazy, and devastating, also had some great things happen too. Beth and I moved into our new house, the machining business I run did very well, and we found out that Beth's daughter, Brianna, was going to have a baby. With the extra room in our house, it made sense for Brianna to move in with us. She did.
Brianna gave birth to a beautiful baby girl in September 2020. Her name is Remi. Raising a child is a full time job. No doubt about it. Yes, things changed in our house after Remi was born. I helped by making sure there was a roof over our heads and food on the table but Brianna and Beth did almost all of the "baby stuff" (changing, feeding, putting her to sleep, etc.). Time passed pretty quickly as we all fell into our new routines and rolls. In an attempt to feel a bit more normal in these not-normal times, we took a ski vacation in February 2021 renting a house in the Pennsylvania Poconos for just our family (remember, Covid was still in full swing at this time).
It was during this vacation that Remi started learning to crawl. I couldn't get enough of watching her. I noticed all of the motions and things we adults do every day and wondered how we get from where Remi is now to where we adults are today. Absolutely incredible. What I began to realize is Remi learning to crawl contained a lot of valuable lessons of which we adults could be reminded. I went to my desk and wrote what would become Remi's Rules for Success.
I have never written a book or anything longer than a letter in my life. I appreciate all of your understanding as you read Learning to Crawl - Book 1 of the Learning From Remi series. Learning to Crawl recognizes we all have some unrealized desire to do something(s) in our lives. Remi's Rules for Success is a good start goal setting. Book 2 in the Learning from Remi series will be Learning to Walk where I outline a clear path and method to achieving your goals. You can expect Learning to Walk to be released in the summer of 2021.
Thanks for everyone who encouraged me to take these risks. Especially Remi!
